Where to Get the Best Wedding Cake Tasting Samples in Ireland

One of the sweetest things about planning your big day is choosing a baker and designing your dream wedding cake together. If you’re Irish, you may already be familiar with how wedding cake tasting is carried out here. However, many people also come to Ireland for destination weddings, and so it’s important to note that there are some small differences in how wedding cake tastings are carried out here. We’ll go over what the process is like first, and then highlight some of the absolute best bakers to do wedding cake tasting with after.

Schedule Your Wedding Cake Tasting Early

Bespoke wedding cake designers do not have the capacity to provide samples or do tastings on the fly. Whereas you may be able to provide little notice to large bakeries or when you’re planning your big day in other parts of the world, boutique bakers tend to do batches of samples a couple of times per year. These are then divided up into sample boxes for the lucky couple or their party to try.

At Bakers & Cakers, our bespoke wedding cake designers each have their own process and while not everyone does tasting boxes, we’ve taken some of the guesswork out of it by selecting a few bakers we know who make wonderful boxes and beautiful cakes. If you see something that piques your interest, reach out to the individual caker for more information.

Tips for Booking Your Wedding Cake Tasting

1) Give cake designers as much notice as possible. Remember, tastings only come around every couple of months, so you’ll want to get on the list for samples as early as possible.

2) Explore the menu and offerings in advance. Head into it with some idea of what flavour pairings you’re most interested in and let the designer know what you like. This way, he or she can tailor your box to your preferences. It’s also wise to ask the baker if he or she has specialties or popular combinations. Guaranteed, you’ll want to try the specialty.

3) Have design ideas. You don’t need to know exactly how you want your finished piece to look.  However, it’s a good idea to have a concept in mind and know a few basic things about what you’re looking for, like whether you’re a fan of buttercream or fondant, or if you require something special, like a vegan cake. Whenever possible, gather up a few photos of pieces you like—use the baker’s own photos if you can.

4) Communicate. The more information you can give your baker, the better. Let him or her know the date, venue, number of guests, themes, and any other details about the big day. These additional details will help your baker tailor your wedding cake tasting experience to your preferences and needs. This also lays the groundwork for planning your wedding cake, so it is everything you hope it will be.
