Looking for Harry Potter cake designs for a birthday, communion, or other event? We’ve gathered up 10 of our favourites—ideal whether you’re an ordinary muggle or wizard in training.
1) The Sorting Hat

Every journey into the world of wizardry begins with an introduction to the sorting hat, so it seems appropriate to begin our wizardly cake journey here too. Novelty cakes are a favourite for Michelle at Cácalicious and it shows in her cake design . Topped off with a flying snitch, this cake shows that, with a bit of creativity, whimsical concepts work for the young-at-heart every bit as well as they do for children.

If you cast your eyes above, you’ll see this particular sorting hat has already made a decision. It’s Gryffindor for Jack! Tanya at Novel-T Cakes is a former engineer, so you’ll see unique approaches in every piece she creates.
2) Spellbound
At a glance, these could pass for real spell books, but these are the handywork of Tara at Broken Spoon Cakes and they’re 100% edible—no magic required.

3)All Aboard
The Hogwarts Express departs from Platform 9 and 3/4 at 11 am sharp better make sure you have your ticket ! Ciara in Truly Scrumptious Cakes has made sure Emma won’t miss her seat aboard the scarlet steam engine or her first day at Hogwarts school of witch craft and wizardry.

4) Spellbound II
Because spell book cake designs are amongst the most popular for Harry Potter parties, we’ve decided to include a couple variants. Our friends over at Perfectionist Confectionist are responsible for this Hogwarts birthday cake. It’s clear this spell book is well-read; just look at the tattered edges of the pages!

5) All Things Potter
All sorts of magic’s afoot in this piece by Cherub Couture Cakes. It almost looks as if Harry Potter, himself, was studying and simply stepped away for a moment.

6) Gryffindor
For the young wizard with more refined tastes, 2210 Patisserie makes this epic Gryffindor bust cake, complete with a wand.

7) Harry Potter Confirmation Cake
Who says birthday wizards are the only ones who get to have fun? This rustic-chic Harry Potter cake design was crafted by 2210 Patisserie for a confirmation.

8) Flying Snitch Cake Pops

The confectioners at Cakefield Avenue have done it again. Check out the details on these flying snitches. One technique they regularly apply is the use of wafer paper for winged cake pops, which means they’re not only an amazing sight, but also totally edible… provided you can catch one before they’re all gone!
9) Bertie Bott’s Cake

Pretty much anything you can dream up, Perfectionist Confectionist can design. They offer several Harry Potter cake designs, including this lovely Bertie Bott’s piece.
10) Marauder’s Map Cake

Hat’s off (sorting hats, that is) to Cakes by Deborah for adding even more novelty to this piece. Although we’re a little curious who those feet belong to and what mischief they’re up to, our best guess is they’re off to sample some cake. Deborah says this delightful piece is vanilla Madeira with homemade caramel and vanilla buttercream. Yum!
Bonus: Fantastic Beasts Cake

We had to include this one by Cakes by Deborah as a bonus. No, it’s not Harry Potter, but fans of J. K. Rowling are sure to recognise this hit as well. Set in the same Wizarding World, though a bit before Potter’s time, this Fantastic Beasts cake give party-goers another way to share in the magic of the day.
